We call ourselves The ALZCARE People because
of our on-going commitment to help the families of those who
suffer with Alzheimers disease and other dementing illnesses.
The company is Alzheimers Care Home Referral Service,
LLC. We are not trying to be all things and providing all
services for elders seeking or needing care homes. We focus
on and specialize in this one area because it is so crucial
to find the right place for your loved one.
Our founder and Manager is David Wylie. He served for a number
of years as a minister in the United Church of Christ. It
was there that he first encountered families struggling with
the tragedy of Alzheimers. Eventually he chose to specialize
in this field. Starting in 1988 he took a position with the
San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Alzheimers Association.
In 1994 he founded Residential Care Placement Services as
a local San Francisco Bay Area Service. Alzheimers Care
Home Referral Services is the next evolutionary step in meeting
the particular needs of Alzheimers/dementia patients
and their families.
Our Mission is simple and straight-forward:
to assist families and professionals in finding
the best care homes for persons with Alzheimers Disease
and related disorders when those persons can no longer be
cared for in their own homes.
Our Key Values in the process of helping families and
professionals are:
Integrity. Referral agencies are in an unusual
situation. Our primary clientsthe person being placed
and their family, do not pay us. Rather, we are paid by the
care homes. We acknowledge the dilemma inherent in this situation
and commit ourselves to unbiased work on behalf of the most
vulnerable person in this process, the person with the dementing
illnessalways putting their needs and wellbeing as the
first priority in the selection process.
Dignity. Dignity in the form of respect for the individual
who is being placed and the life they have lived as well as
the life they have yet to live. And respect for the pain and
pressure experienced by family members who have accepted the
responsibility for the placement decision.
Communication. We acknowledge that quality communication
can be a problem in the best of circumstances. It is always
much more of a challenge in situations where participants
are stressed, pressed for time and often dealing with unwanted,
unfamiliar and uncomfortable issues. We accept the challenge
of ensuring clear communications between the parties involved
to the greatest extent possible, in order to assure the best
possible outcome for everyone.
